Well, maybe two stars is harsh, but the setup is cheap because there’s no one on site. That only works if the gear is working and if there’s out of hours help if something doesn’t work.
We needed to practice our vocals in the band but one of the mics was broken. After a few minutes waiting for the online help I was given a code for the spares cupboard. There were no spare microphones in it though, so no help.
They did offer to move us later that evening to a different room but it takes over half an hour to set the band up and we were short of time. Couldn’t we get a mic from the other room? No. Against policy, apparently. The only offer we got was more time, but we didn’t have more time.
So, we were unlucky. But they can’t sort problems out because there’s nobody there.
The equipment is mostly decent and the rooms seem nice.
The toilet has no lock on the door and wasn’t clean. There’s no ladies loo, or at least not one I could find. It’s quite rough in the area nearby, but we’ve never had any bother getting in and out.
The acoustics in the room are OK, but we’ve been in better.
Pirate has really gone down. The location is great, but there is always an issue with the equipment in the room! The new price changes also unfairly affect large acts when we already have to pay more for a larger room! It is cheaper to go to a manned studio where any issues are instantly fixed and there is a much more welcome atmosphere!
It is fine for when you NEEEEEED to use it, but don't punish yourself if you can afford not to.
Pirate Nottingham is amazing for Djing and Band Rehearsals, I don’t use the rehearsal rooms but I’ve heard good stuff about them every-time I see people going in there. When I use the DJ rooms there is always a minor issue such as lights not working or crossfaders broken, The worst issue I had once was in PRO ROOM 2 And deck 3 screen on the cdj was broke, you can’t blame pirate it’s the people that use the rooms, I always have a epic time. The WhatsApp customer service is always perfect and supportive when you have an issue. PS (cheers for the free tenner) The last session I had Sunday was amazing!
Highly recommend going and making use of these studios, to have the access some nice equipment as well as a good opportunity for a session with mates. Had a slight issue with my booking but Sara from the support team was quick to resolve this!
Can be a great space to practice and get gig ready. But the biggest issue with pirate is their inability to maintain schedules. Literally no explanation offered on a cancellation. And it's happened several times. Just this week in fact, prompting this review.
The facilities are decent enough, booking is quick and easy and the Whatsapp help channel is useful for when things go wrong, but I have a real problem with this outfit. They have cancelled our bookings 5 times in as many months just a couple of days or so before the session itself. The reason is always the same 'maintenance or technical issues'. This leaves us high and dry, and on two of those occasions we were due to play important gigs and needed the final practice to finesse our act. We had no alternative at such notice. I really wish Pirate would sort this out
Not the worst one I been too. The mixer though, well wasn't usable. More down to people having no respect for equipment but neither the less Pirate should fix equipment promptly
